Your Field Needs YOU!

New wild flower meadow – The Great Planting – Volunteers needed.

On Wednesday 6th October Lancaster City Council volunteers will face the mammoth task of planting out around 4000 wild flower plug plants in the area between Derwent Road and the mown play area.

Work will start at around 0900 and continue through the day.

They will need help from our volunteers – THAT MEANS YOU, we hope!

If you can come along please bring tools such as trowels, spades, rakes and gloves.

Don’t worry if you are at work or school on Wednesday 6th – FMWF are also holding a working party on Sunday October 10th from 1100 onwards to continue and hopefully complete this work and other tasks.

We have always had a great turnout for our work parties with both families and individuals very welcome. There’s plenty for everyone to do, so we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on these two dates.

It is important that FMWF can demonstrate that the local community are willing to give their time and effort to improve this much loved green space.

Before all this happens, a contractor will be on site to mow the area and remove the cut material during the week commencing 20th September. You may also have noticed that our scything team  and Lancaster City Council staff have been cutting back other areas to encourage the growth of wild flowers and increase biodiversity. Well done guys, and thank you!
