Yes, we all know that summer seemed to end at the end of June, and since then it’s been ‘rather damp’!
However the Field has really been enjoying the change in the climate and is at its most luxuriant right now. Autumn is still a distant thought and all the wild flowers and insects are enjoying the moment. Just look how much is going on in this small patch of ground…..
Get out there, with your wellies if necessary, and have a close look at all the life that’s right in front of you. See how many wild flowers you can spot, and how many insects (especially if the sun comes out!). That’s what all the hard work that has been put into the Field is all about.
In particular keep an eye open for this pink one…..
This is Hemp Agrimony and, according to those who know about these things, it is ‘a brilliant plant for pollinators’, so you may see some of them interested in this unexpected addition to our wild flowers.
If you leave the Field via the memorial stone you will find yet more to enjoy…as you can see, the flowers planted more in hope than expectation have done very well.
There are lots of plans for this autumn, and plenty of chance to join in, so watch this space for more news. In the meantime enjoy the Field in its summer clothes and let us know if you find anything interesting. A (jpg) photo is always welcome…. and might even appear in these posts!
