Midge heroes

The River Midge, better known to locals as simply ‘The Stream’, is a vital (though often overlooked) feature of Miss Whalley’s Field and an essential part of the drainage system.

A team from Lancaster City Council recently made one of their regular visits to clear vegetation out of the stream and to clear land drains and the culvert. This vital work improves the flow of the river and helps to minimise flooding in the Field and further downstream.

As you can see, this is not a clean and easy job so the team were pleased to be recognised for their efforts to improve the environment on the Field.

Thank you from all the Friends of Miss Whalley’s Field!
